As promised during the campaign, Ekiti’s governor, Kayode Fayemi, claims that during the previous four years, his administration has been successful in restoring the people’s values.
The groundwork for sustainable development, he claimed, had also been set by his administration.
As part of the events commemorating the end of his term, Fayemi made this statement on Tuesday in Ikere-Ekiti while on a “Thank You” tour of the Ekiti-South Senatorial District.
While listing some of the accomplishments made by his government, particularly in the district, the governor stated that the legacies would be maintained by the new administration.
In all of the state’s senatorial districts, he insisted, his government delivered positive results in the fields of education, human capital development, health, social security, social amenities, and infrastructure development.
“It is easy to forget that when we embarked upon this journey four years ago, Ekiti was still in the dungeon.
“We had a lot of challenges and we promised to restore the value of our people and reclaim the land for progress and development.
“I believe that four years down the line we have discharged that duty to the best of our ability.
“I think we can thick the box in all of the areas in which we pledged to make life better for our people whether in education, human capital development,“ he said.
According to Fayemi, his administration renamed the University of Education, Science and Technology and upgraded the College of Education to be known as the Elder Bamidele Olumilua University.
According to him, the renovation was done to complement the public, private, and federal universities in Ekiti.
The governor characterized the airport project as large and stated that an airport city would eventually be made up of the “Knowledge Zone” connected to it.
“This is because of a lot of development that will happen there will be to the benefit of the state”
While expressing gratitude to the state’s residents for their support, Fayemi said that having the opportunity to hold the office of governor allowed him to advance to the positions of Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and President of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FRAS).
“Gratitude to our people in Ekiti State, particularly to the people of Southern Senatorial District.
“The people of the South Senatorial District have been good and gracious to us as a government and they have been good to us as a party.
“If we checked the result of the last election, you will see that our governor-elect received overwhelming support from the southern part of the state”
In his message of goodwill, Mr. Sunday Filani, a representative of the Ikere Local Government Area, commended the governor for the successes of his administration.
He mentioned the building of Adelogun Bridge and the transformation of the College of Education, Ikere, into a university that grants degrees as some of the region’s ground-breaking accomplishments.
Representatives from the other council areas reportedly took the opportunity to list the accomplishments of the administration in their regions, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, and the Ekiti Governor-Elect, Biodun Oyebanji, as well as his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, all attended the ceremony.
Both the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ekiti Chairman, Mr. Paul Omotosho, and the Deputy Governor-Elect, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, were present.
Others were Olukere of Ikere-Ekiti Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, Olowuro of Orun-Ekiti Oba Aderounmu Adewumi, and various government and party members.
