The Government Enterprise Empowerment Program has officially been launched by the Federal Government (GEEP 2.0)
The program will be reproduced in all the states of the federation, according to Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, who started the program’s national phase in Katsina State.
Loan disbursement would start in all of the federation’s states with the launch of the program, according to the minister.
Hajiya Farouq was quoted in a statement made in Abuja by Nneka Anibeze, the minister’s media assistant: “GEEP is a programme designed by President Buhari’s administration to create further opportunities for the poor, vulnerable and low-income Nigerians, especially those who are involved in viable informal productive activities with limited financial requirements but have never had access to loans from the formal financial sector.
“It is meant to give priority to the most vulnerable in our society, like widows, youth, persons with disabilities and the internally displaced persons (IDPs), amongst others.”

She stated that the interest-free loans to beneficiaries were in keeping with President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to combating poverty and its terrible effects from all angles at the presentation of cheques to peasant farmers and small business women.
In the first phase of the program, only 13,000 of the 59,161 potential beneficiaries who had been registered across Katsina State’s 34 local government areas had been verified and given the go-ahead to receive interest-free loans. New registration has not yet begun.
The minister stated that a public announcement would be made regarding the second round of registration for 2022, which would include more vulnerable individuals and groups.
