The Yobe State Government has formalized an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to implement a new minimum wage of N70,000, with payments set to commence in December 2024.
The agreement was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Mallam Wali, representing the government, and Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu, Chairman of the NLC Yobe State Council, on behalf of organized labour.
Baba Mallam Wali confirmed that the new wage structure would cover employees at all levels, including pensioners and those on special salary structures.
“Consultations are still ongoing between the government and organized labour to clarify the payment schedule for local government employees,” he added.
The SSG encouraged civil servants to show gratitude by upholding the ethics of civil service, emphasizing discipline, dedication, and commitment to their duties.
This development follows the state government’s approval of the new minimum wage last Saturday, with implementation scheduled to begin in December 2024.
