A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly.
Bobrisky had sought N200 million from the EFCC for alleged psychological trauma and N1 billion from the National Assembly for the purported violation of his right to a fair hearing. He also asked the court to restrain the EFCC and the National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.
The case stemmed from allegations by social media influencer Martins Otse, who claimed in a leaked audio recording that Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
In delivering judgment, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims of rights violations were baseless and unsupported by credible evidence.
“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him,” the judge stated.
Justice Owoeye further held that the claims against the EFCC and the National Assembly were unsubstantiated and dismissed them for lacking merit. He also declined to award damages against the EFCC.
The EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the ruling in a statement released on Friday.
