The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku has organized a meeting with Southwest party leaders, and Governor Seyi Makinde has seized control of the meeting from former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi.
Makinde lined up behind Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, so Gbolarumi, a leader of the party who had been disgruntled in the State, was in charge of making preparations for the meeting.
In recent months, he and his followers have engaged Atiku in a constant conflict, Atiku being a northerner, they want the national chairman Iyorchia Ayu to step down to make room for a southerner.
The Governor, who is the head of the party in Southwest, changed his mind after the meeting was officially confirmed a few days ago and insisted he take over as meeting coordinator.
However, Gbolarumi refused to budge, asserting his authority. Makinde chose a different venue despite Gbolarumi having previously made arrangements for one, adding to the logistical difficulties.
