The rumor that the Federal High Court in Osogbo has barred the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) from holding the Local Government Elections scheduled for October 15 in the State has been debunked by the commission as untrue and unfounded.
According to a statement made by the Chairman of the Commission, Otunba Segun Oladitan, the Second Defendant challenged the Peoples Democratic Party’s plea to amend their original summons in the case FHCOSCS942022 (OSIEC).
However, following tense exchanges between the parties, the court approved their request to amend the original summons, and the case was continued for hearing on September 26.
It should be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party had petitioned the Federal High Court in Osogbo regarding whether the Second Defendant, OSIEC, could lawfully conduct the October 15 LG POLLS in the state in light of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. This issue has not been debated in any way.
However, the statement gives the public the reassurance that the Commission is working nonstop to hold very credible and respectable local government elections in Osun on October 15, 2022.
