The House of Representatives was forced to adjourn early on Tuesday due to a power outage at the new location where members are holding plenary sessions while the Chamber is undergoing continuous renovations.
When the power went out for the second time, the House had just approved a bill for second reading that would have amended the Evidence Act, Cap. E14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to update its provisions to reflect recent advancements in technology.
The Speaker questioned the House’s members about whether to adjourn because to the power outage, asking: “Honorable members, can we adjourn plenary before the UPs go off?”
Before the Speaker could continue, the UPs went off, completely darkening the temporary Chamber.
However, the House requested that the Federal government offer the family of Yobe cleric Sheikh Goni Aisami, who was allegedly killed in August by a soldier named John Gabriel in the Karasuwa Local Government Area, some corrective aid while the case is being resolved in court.
The Representatives decided to adopt a motion put out before the House by Zakaria Galadima, asking the federal government to provide assistance to the family through the Nigerian Army while the case is being resolved
