Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governor of Borno State, met privately with former president Olusegun Obasanjo in the penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
Sheriff, who had long since defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), voiced confidence in the APC’s ability to prevail in the 2023 presidential election and other elections.
Around 9.15 a.m., he arrived at Obasanjo’s house and immediately walked to the private meeting with the former President.
If Nigeria had been an industry, the former governor of Borno State portrayed his host as the chairman and chief executive officer.
He told the media that he was visiting the former president privately.
Sheriff said: “This is purely a private visit. You know Baba (Obasanjo) is an elder statesman. If Nigeria were a company, Baba Obasanjo would be the Chairman and Chief Executive. So, I came for consultation and have a private chat with Baba.
“Baba Obasanjo is an elder statesman and I, being a younger one, it is important that from time to time I come and greet my father, discuss with him privately and go back.”
Asked if his discussion with the former President was on the Nigerian project, the APC chieftain said: “I didn’t say that. It is a private visit.”
Prodded to comment on 2023 general election, Sheriff jocularly said: “Your view is my view. What is your view? What is my view? I want my party (APC) to win. You journalists are also in a better, informed position to advise the politicians than us.”
