Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State has appointed Iyanuoluwa Odedeji as one day Vice Chancellor, on Wednesday.
Odedeji is a 300-level Medicine and Surgery Department in the University and has two deputies: Motunrayo Odusanya and Similoluwa Adeyemo.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the University, Toba Adaramola, this year’s is the third edition as the initiative started in 2020.
“It is a privilege given by the University for the student to take part in the administration of the Bowen University and prepare them for leadership.
“The One-Day VC initiative is centered on excellence, godliness and leadership. Also to prepare them for the future ahead.”
According to him, Adeyemo is the first runner-up while Odusanya is the second runner-up.
“We try to encourage leadership among the students. We asked students to indicate interest for the position of the one-day VC, and they afterwards go through tests and examinations. 10 people will be shortlisted, we go through exercises and 5 people get shortlisted. Students are then asked to vote for who they want, and whoever emerges is the one-day Vice Chancellor and two other people who got higher votes are elected as deputies.
“He has the capacity to run the University for that one day. They have breakfast in the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge, they see to affairs during the Chapel services, they come to the University’s radio station for an interview, he would sit in the position of Vice Chancellor during Senate Meeting among other things.
“Today, he will commission the Breakfast Hall which was is the initiative of the person who was the one-day Vice Chancellor in 2021. So that one started an initiative and this one has completed it.
“Whatever he approves is considered approved by the University. And the salary of the Vice Chancellor shall be divided by 30 days and give whoever serves as one day Vice Chancellor one portion of it.”
Odedeji, in his address thanked God, the school management and the students who voted for him.
He assured them that some of the challenges they face before this time shall be addressed by him in the short time given and would start discussions that would lead to the solutions
