The St. Charles’ Old Boys Association (SCOBA), Osogbo has vowed to continue fight social vices in its capabilities.
According to the Global President of SCOBA, Rotimi Aluko on Monday, he said the Association wants to re-orientate the students through resuscitation of moral-incorporated clubs.
This was asserted during a press briefing in commemoration of Biennial Convention /Founder’s Day & 60th Anniversary Celebration which is slated from the 30th of May to 5th of June, 2022.
“We are bringing back various clubs and associations to the school and we are not standing by the generally acknowledged ones, ‘the popular jingo’ associations such as Literary and Debate, science clubs and Drama. We have gone beyond that because we as an association have gone beyond that.
“We are going into technology club, law and order club, environment club, as well as press club. Even golf the acclaimed most elite sport, long tennis and boxing that will spice up international entertainment and enhance human capabilities.
“Away from our support for proper academics, we are doing progressive advancements. Many of the kids we have that are engaged in the whole mess of vices that escalated to almost nuclear level, are results of bad home training and educational support.
SCOBA President lamented that the society is deteriorating at ‘an unacceptable rate’, said the end result are internet fraudsters and ritual killings.
He expressed his fear that the future is at bleak if not arrested.
Aluko said, “In terms of how much the old students have invested, I would quote from the late sage, Pa Awolowo when he described his wife, he said ‘she is a jewel of inestimable value”. Our contributions are of inestimable value. It is not something we say, we have spent 10 Billion or so, just to create effects. This is contributions from everybody and those who have the millions and billions open their purses as well.
“And those who blessed with ideas have come to create ideas. And if you remember, ideas are stronger than money Contributions transcend money.
“This year’s Biennial Convention is unprecedented in the life of our Association given that we are actually celebrating three major in one: the 2022 Biennial Convention of of SCOBA, 2022 Founder’s Day of The School and the 60th Anniversary of St Charles Grammar School in fulfillment of our “Decade Decade” Anniversary which is a big collective celebration by our members in Thanksgiving to God for all the blessings and a big opportunity for giving back. The 60 Anniversary was deferred owing to COVID-19 restrictions.
“Our support advocacy for the school extends to infrastructure, academic performance, character development, financial support, teaching staff motivation, academic progression to higher institutions, etc.”
SCOBA furthermore aligned self with advocacy, said it will not be satisfied with government interventions because there is always room for improvements.
“That is why we here always make sure we input our own. We support the government on what they are doing and we call their attention to what we have. But you know we are not the only school in the state and education is not the problem.
“We are not a governmental agency, we as well as non governmental agency; we are an advocacy group. We are not political and not religious or ethnic as a body. The limit of our interest is first of all within what we profess as our objects. There are six objects and all of them entirely revolve around things targeted at St Charles and members of St Charles Old Boys Grammar School Old Boys AssociatioN>”

SCOBA 2022 BIENNIAL CONVENTION /FOUNDER’S DAY & 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION (30th May – June 5, 2022)
Good morning Gentlemen of the Press. We are most honoured by you honouing our invitation this morning. On behalf of the entire membership of St. Charles’ Grammar School Osogbo Old Boys- SCOBA Worldwide, I say a very big welcome and thank you for the honour of coming.
As you will already know or guess, our Association is the body of Old Students of St. Charles’ Grammar School, Osogbo who have formed into a giving back group dedicated cardinally to the cause of giving progressive support to our Alma Mater and generations of students passing through the institution. We also support ourselves as may be necessary as part of measures for ensuring that we keep strong to keep St Charles’ strong!
Our support advocacy for the school extends to infrastructure, academic performance, character development, financial support, teaching staff motivation, academic progression to higher institutions, etc.
Within our membership, we fellowship in close brotherly fraternity through our structure of Stanzas (Class Sets) and Chapters (Clusters of our members living together in the same towns/cities, countries around the world) and biennially convene in total membership on the grounds of the school; we come back home to globally fellowship and work out strategies for energising our noble cause and deliverables for the school.
