Governor Zulum Offers Shelter, Scholarship to Molested Minor Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended a compassionate hand to Bashir Gaji and his family, the boy who was seen being molested in a viral video. He announced the donation of a fully furnished house to provide them with safe and dignified living conditions. Additionally, he awarded young Bashir a full scholarship to support his education from primary school through to higher education. During a meeting with the young victim, Bashir Gaji at the Government House, Governor Zulum ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of Bukar Modu, the man captured allegedly molesting the minor in the viral video. Acting swiftly on the Governor’s directive, security operatives apprehended Bukar Modu on Saturday night at Umarari in Maiduguri. The video, which has triggered widespread condemnation across social media, exposes a severe case of child abuse, underlining the need for decisive legal action and stronger child protection measures in Borno State. Governor Zulum, visibly disturbed by the incident, made it clear that his administration has zero tolerance for the abuse and exploitation of children. “This despicable act is not only criminal but a complete violation of our values as a people. It is a betrayal of our collective duty to protect the vulnerable, especially children under our care. I have directed that this individual must be prosecuted without delay and face the full weight of the law. No child should ever endure such trauma,” Zulum said. Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of all children in the state and ensuring that survivors of abuse are rehabilitated and given the opportunity to thrive. The Governor also instructed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to intensify community engagement and awareness programmes, saying the initiative will focus on educating families, local teachers, and guardians on appropriate and lawful methods of child discipline and care. The victim’s family, currently residing in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Monguno, was displaced following the tragic assassination of Bashir’s father by Boko Haram insurgents.
