United States President Donald Trump has insisted he made no mistake in sharing a video on his Truth Social account that depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said he did not watch the entire clip before it was posted, explaining that his focus was on alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election highlighted in the first part of the video.

“I didn’t make a mistake,” he said, adding that he generally relies on his team to review content before it is shared.

When asked if he condemned the video’s content, Trump replied, “Of course I do.”

The video, posted late Thursday, promoted a conspiracy theory about voting machines and remained on Trump’s account for about 12 hours before it was deleted following widespread bipartisan criticism.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the post, calling it an internet meme and urging the media to focus on more important matters. The video was removed from Truth Social hours after the statement.
