Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has condemned the deadly attack by armed bandits on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as a cowardly assault on innocent civilians.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, left scores of residents dead, with several houses razed by the assailants, plunging the agrarian communities into mourning and renewed fear.
In a statement issued in Ilorin by his spokesman, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and sympathised with families affected by the violence. He said he was saddened by what he termed a calculated attempt to destabilise peaceful communities and undermine ongoing security efforts in the state.
According to the governor, the assault appears to be a desperate response by terrorist elements to sustained counterterrorism operations that have recorded notable successes across parts of Kwara. He noted that security agencies have, in recent months, intensified efforts to hunt down bandits and kidnapping gangs, yielding positive results.
“The governor condemns the attack, which he says is a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells following the ongoing counterterrorism campaigns in parts of the state and the successes so far recorded,” the statement said.
AbdulRazaq added that the attackers were likely seeking to distract security forces from their ongoing operations, but assured residents that the government would not relent in supporting security agencies to restore peace and protect lives and property.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Woro and Nuku, particularly the families who lost loved ones, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening security architecture and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
