The Niger State Government has launched a coordinated push to boost citizen participation in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago directing senior public and political office holders to lead a massive mobilisation across the state.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the governor underscored the strategic importance of the CVR to accountable governance, democratic consolidation and national development. He noted that the limited window provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demands urgency, discipline and visible leadership from those in authority.
Accordingly, commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of parastatals and other political appointees have been tasked to step up awareness campaigns and mobilise eligible residents at ward and local government levels. The directive covers first-time voters as well as citizens seeking to transfer or update their voter records.
The government said officials are expected to deploy the reach of their offices and existing community structures to ensure broad participation, particularly among young voters and those previously excluded from the process. The emphasis, the statement added, is on practical engagement that translates into measurable turnout at registration centres.
Beyond the electoral exercise, Governor Bago also instructed all political appointees, irrespective of rank, to actively support the ongoing electronic membership registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The move, he said, is designed to reinforce grassroots organisation and deepen internal democracy within the party.
The administration expressed confidence that sustained cooperation from officials will translate into higher civic engagement and strengthen democratic development in Niger State, signalling a results-driven approach anchored on participation and institutional responsibility.
