Primary healthcare delivery across Kwara South received a major boost on Friday as the Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing the district, Arc. Oyelola Yisa Ashiru distributed modern medical equipment and essential drugs to selected Primary Health Care (PHC) centres across the senatorial district.
The intervention, executed under the Kwara South Health Intervention Projects: 2026 Medical Outreach, is aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery and reducing the burden on residents who rely heavily on primary health facilities for basic medical services.
Beneficiary health centres include Idofin-Igbana Primary Health Care Centre, Koro Primary Health Care Centre, Ruba Health Centre, Isapa, Model Primary Health Care Centre, Owu-Isin, and Ilale Primary Health Care Centre.
Items delivered to the facilities comprised hospital beds and mattresses, vital signs monitoring equipment, sterilizers, baby weighing scales, and warm expellers, alongside other essential medical tools required for routine and emergency care.
Also supplied were consumables such as urethral catheters, examination gauze, syringes, IV sets, flasks, nightingale lamps, medical rubs among others.
To further enhance service delivery at the community level, a wide range of essential drugs were also distributed.
These include paracetamol, amoxicillin, amlodipine, artemether, blood tonics, carbamazepine, trifluoperazine, benzhexol, among others commonly used in the management of infections, malaria, hypertension, and certain neurological and mental health conditions.
The Senator also distributed medicines to drugs to the psychiatric section at General Hospital, Offa.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by stakeholders, community leaders, and staff of the beneficiary health centres, who were present at the various points of delivery.
They described the intervention as timely and impactful, particularly in rural communities where shortages of equipment and essential medicines often hamper effective healthcare delivery.
Senator Ashiru, who was ably represented by his Aides noted that equipping PHCs with modern medical equipment and adequate drug supplies would significantly improve service delivery, boost the morale of health workers, and restore public confidence in the primary healthcare system.
Community leaders, in separate remarks, commended Senator Ashiru for prioritising healthcare, noting that the intervention would ease the challenges faced by frontline health workers and reduce the need for residents to travel long distances in search of basic medical attention.
The PHC equipping exercise capped a week-long health intervention programme across Kwara South.
This reinforces Senator Ashiru’s commitment to people-oriented governance and sustainable community development, with healthcare remaining a central pillar of his legislative and developmental agenda.
