Kwara Poly Rector Suspended

The Kwara State Government has suspended the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, following a recent student protest that disrupted activities at the institution.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, announced the suspension on Wednesday, stating that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq directed the rector to step aside with immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation.

A three-member panel has been constituted to probe the causes of the protest. The committee, chaired by the State Attorney General, Barrister Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, includes the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nafisat Buge, and the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Olufunke Shittu.

The panel has two weeks to submit its report. Its terms of reference include examining the remote and immediate causes of the protest, assessing how it was handled, recommending measures to prevent a recurrence, and suggesting ways to foster the institution’s growth.

“The committee is expected to engage all relevant stakeholders in the course of its assignment,” Hajia Sa’adatu stated.

During the interim, the most senior Deputy Rector will act as the head of the polytechnic. The government’s move aims to ensure a transparent investigation and restore normalcy to the campus.
