A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Biodun Ajiboye, has offered a robust defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, asserting that only a leader of uncommon courage could have embarked on the sweeping economic and structural changes currently underway.
Ajiboye made the assertion on Monday while featuring on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, where he pushed back against criticisms of the President’s policies, describing them as the hallmark of decisive and patriotic leadership.
According to him, Tinubu’s willingness to take hard decisions reflects political bravery rather than recklessness, noting that a timid leader would have avoided reforms capable of attracting public backlash.
“If Bola Tinubu were timid, he would not have undertaken most of the reforms he is pushing through,” Ajiboye said. “This is a leader prepared to take the bull by the horns and confront deep-rooted national challenges head-on.”
He argued that the President had placed Nigeria’s long-term survival and prosperity above short-term political gains, stressing that Tinubu was more focused on stabilising the country than on calculations about the 2027 general election.
“This is a patriot who believes that the lives and future of Nigerians are more important than returning to power in 2027,” he added. “He has been honest with the people and has not sugar-coated the realities.”
Ajiboye also threw a challenge to opposition parties to present any individual with comparable intellect, experience and administrative capacity, insisting that Tinubu’s pedigree in governance remains unmatched.
He pointed to Lagos State as a practical example of Tinubu’s leadership footprint, arguing that the foundations laid during his tenure as governor continue to distinguish the state economically and institutionally.
“Among the opposition, who has this combination of intellect, courage and knowledge of governance?” he asked. “Which state in Nigeria today can truly be compared with Lagos?”
