The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has reiterated its determination to deliver elections that meet the highest benchmarks of integrity, transparency and fairness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Mahmud Isah, gave the assurance at a stakeholders’ forum convened to mark the resumption of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Dr Isah underscored that the credibility of the CVR exercise and the success of future elections rest on shared responsibility, stressing that INEC cannot achieve a flawless electoral process in isolation. He called for broad-based collaboration, noting that credible elections demand the active participation and vigilance of all stakeholders.
He urged eligible Nigerians to take ownership of the process by registering with the commission and securing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing voter registration as a civic obligation central to democratic participation.
The REC disclosed that INEC has approved the nationwide continuation of the CVR, with online pre-registration ongoing, while physical registration at INEC local government offices is slated to commence on January 5, 2026.
The engagement attracted wide representation, including the Emirs of Gusau and Maru, leaders and representatives of political parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Also in attendance were members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), security agencies and media organisations, reflecting a coordinated approach towards strengthening public confidence in the electoral process as the 2027 polls draw closer.
