The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over what it described as the “wrong direction” of the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, highlighting the economic hardships confronting ordinary Nigerians.
“The kind of hardship Nigerians are experiencing today is unprecedented,” Abdullahi said. “What is even more concerning is the denial of the reality faced by the majority. Every economic record points to the fact that the country is not moving in the right direction, yet the government continues to claim the economy is thriving.”
He criticised what he termed the administration’s ongoing “campaigning” three years into its tenure, insisting that promises meant to reassure citizens fall short of tangible action.
“Year three and they are still campaigning, making promises as if they are not the ones in power for the past three years. But more importantly, there is a glaring lack of sensitivity and care for what the people are going through,” Abdullahi added.
The ADC spokesman also took aim at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foreign trips, suggesting a disconnect from domestic crises. “This president keeps travelling out of the country at will, especially during crises. Former President Goodluck Jonathan did not abandon the country when faced with challenges; he did not flee or go on holidays while terrible things were happening,” he said.
Abdullahi’s comments come amid growing public concern over inflation, unemployment, and the widening gap between the government’s narratives and citizens’ lived realities.
