The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commenced an electronic membership registration exercise across all wards in the state, marking a strategic shift towards digital governance within the party.
The e-registration drive, which began on Monday, is expected to run until the end of January and is open to both existing members and new entrants. Party leaders say the initiative is designed to build a centralised and credible digital database ahead of future political activities.
Speaking on the development, the APC’s Lagos State spokesperson, Mr Seye Oladejo, said the adoption of technology would strengthen internal democracy and improve the integrity of the party’s records.
According to him, the digital platform is aimed at eliminating duplication and impersonation, while ensuring that every member is properly identified and verifiable within the party’s structure.
Oladejo noted that the process would place long-standing members and new registrants on equal footing, reducing undue influence and curbing practices that undermine transparency at the grassroots.
He stressed that a reliable membership register is critical to the conduct of credible congresses, primaries and leadership selection exercises, adding that the party is positioning itself for seamless future electoral engagements.
The APC spokesman further explained that the initiative is expected to attract young people, professionals and first-time political participants, while also improving coordination across wards and local councils.
He urged party members across the state to participate actively in the exercise, describing it as a shared responsibility that would strengthen the APC’s internal processes and long-term growth in Lagos.
