The Deputy Leader of the Senate and lawmaker representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Architect Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, on Thursday, 1st of January 2026, hosted his annual New Year prayer at his residence in Offa, Kwara State.

The gathering drew party members from various wards across Offa and featured an Islamic cleric, who led prayers and delivered a sermon centred on reconciliation, love and service to humanity.

Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Taofeek Olayinka Sheu, popularly known as Mighty; Mr Muyideen Bammeke; Elder Akano from Ojomu South-East; Alhaja Mujidat Amototo; Alhaja Taiye; Hon. Taofeek Omoluabi, popularly known as Kanjuko, as well as numerous party faithful from different wards in the town.

The gathering commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, after which the cleric, the founder of the Bin Salman Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Imam (Khalifah) Abdulrahman Abayomi Hussain Al-Imam (Allahu-Lateef) delivered a lecture that challenged attendees to begin the year with clean hearts and renewed faith.

In his message, Imam Abdur-Rahman emphasised the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation, urging people to let go of long-held grievances and strengthen their relationship with Allah and one another.

He described the new year as a promising one, stressing that starting it with prayers should inspire positive personal change. He encouraged attendees to reach out to those they had fallen out with, noting that peace and humility remain central to spiritual growth and social harmony.

The cleric also called on the gathering to embrace mutual understanding and generosity, citing Senator Lola Ashiru as an example of cheerful giving and inclusive leadership.

Special prayers were offered for the Deputy Senate Leader, with the imam praying for his continued progress, good health and long life. He further asked Allah to grant and accept the senator’s personal supplications, including those known only to him and Allah on his next agenda.
