Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has dismissed speculations that he is defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying he does not need to formally join a platform he has always been part of.
Obi, who spoke during an interactive session on X Space on Sunday night, clarified that he has been involved in the ADC-led coalition from its inception, stressing that reports suggesting a fresh political move were misleading.
According to him, his role within the coalition predates current political calculations, noting that he cannot re-join an organisation to which he already belongs.
“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of. I have been part of the coalition from day one,” Obi said.
He also debunked claims that any political figure was stepping down for him within the ADC framework, explaining that leaders involved in the coalition had agreed to work together in the interest of national development.
Obi further reaffirmed his respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a leader he holds in high esteem.
“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader,” he added.
