Tragedy struck at a concert headlined by Nigerian singer, Asake, in Nairobi, Kenya, as a stampede reportedly claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at the Nyayo National Stadium, where a large crowd had gathered for the show. The victim, identified as Karen Lojore, was said to have been caught in a rush triggered by overcrowding at the venue.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that on-site paramedics attempted emergency resuscitation before she was rushed to the Nairobi West Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The concert organisers, Tukutane Entertainment, confirmed the development in a statement shared on their Instagram page, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
The organisers said they were devastated by the loss and were working closely with emergency responders and relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
They extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, assuring the public of their cooperation with ongoing investigations.
The latest incident has once again raised concerns over crowd control and safety measures at large-scale music events.
It would be recalled that a similar tragedy occurred in December 2022 during Asake’s concert at the Brixton O2 Academy in London, where a 33-year-old Nigerian woman, Rebecca Ikumelo, a mother of two, lost her life after sustaining severe injuries in a stampede.
The recurrence of such incidents has continued to spark calls for stricter safety protocols and more robust crowd management strategies at entertainment events across major cities.
