Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has applauded the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army for establishing a Training Depot in the state, describing it as a strategic boost to national security and youth development.
The governor gave the commendation on Friday in Osogbo while receiving the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ahead of the Passing Out Parade of the first batch of recruits trained at the newly established Nigerian Army Training Depot in Osun State.
Adeleke said the hosting of the facility and the graduation of its pioneer recruits marked a historic milestone for Osun, underscoring the state’s growing relevance in the nation’s security architecture. He assured the Army of the state government’s continued support, noting that security remains a shared responsibility.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, explained that the parade aligns with a Presidential directive declaring a state of emergency on national security, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence capacity and operational readiness.
According to her, the directive mandated the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to intensify recruitment, training and deployment of capable personnel to address evolving security threats across the country.
As part of activities marking the historic graduation, Lieutenant General Shaibu paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Osogbo, where he commended the state government for its cooperation, which he said was instrumental to the successful establishment of the Training Depot.
The Army Chief described the Osun facility as a strategic national asset that would enhance operational strength, promote youth empowerment and contribute to overall national stability.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and high training standards, stressing that the newly graduated recruits are adequately prepared for deployment to various operations nationwide.
Shaibu also emphasised the importance of strong civil-military relations in sustaining peace and security, noting that collaboration with host communities remains critical to the Army’s effectiveness.
The Passing Out Parade of the pioneer recruits, scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025, is expected to feature ceremonial drills, troop inspections and other military displays, signifying the successful completion of basic training and the readiness of the recruits for active service.
