The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, has commenced an internal investigation following allegations that a newborn baby died at the facility as a result of a power outage.
The hospital confirmed the development on Sunday through its Public Relations Unit, hours after a legal practitioner, identified as M.A. Danlami, raised the alarm on social media, alleging that a woman lost her baby because electricity was unavailable at the hospital at a critical moment.
According to the management of FMC Jalingo, the allegation has been formally brought to the attention of the hospital’s leadership, prompting a comprehensive probe to establish the true sequence of events.
The management stressed that patient safety and emergency care remain top priorities, noting that all complaints bordering on lapses in service delivery are treated with utmost seriousness.
While acknowledging the persistent infrastructure challenges confronting public health institutions across the country, the hospital maintained that it has contingency measures, including backup power and emergency response systems, designed to cushion the impact of outages on critical medical services.
The centre further disclosed that it had previously investigated similar complaints and implemented corrective actions where shortcomings were identified.
