Following the announcement of Rico Swavey’s passing, actress Hadiza Abubakar chastised “certain Nigerians” for hitting the follow button on his Instagram profile.
Rico passed away on Thursday after being involved in an automobile accident on Tuesday early in the morning that put him in a coma.
On social media, condolence comments and tributes from a wide range of people, including celebrities, have not stopped coming in.
The sudden spike in the deceased’s Instagram following caught Abubakar off guard.
She questioned whether followers of Rico flocked to his page in droves before he passed away.
The movie star eventually came to the conclusion that “certain Nigerians” were “ill,” having a propensity for “eye service.”
She wrote: “Some Nigerians are SICK WALLAHI!! Y’all have a thing for following people the moment news of their demise breaks out! Why not follow them when alive?
“Rico was on 243k! After his demise now is 247k!
“What is it with Nigerians and ojuaye bayiii??? Shey oku dey update?”
As of the time of this report, the deceased followers have increased to over 250,000.
