President Bola Tinubu yesterday delivered a hard-hitting charge to Nigeria’s judicial officers, insisting that the nation’s courts must remain impervious to influence and corruption if the country is to sustain its democratic credibility.
Speaking at the All Nigeria Judges’ Conference in Abuja, the President stressed that no reform effort could achieve meaningful traction without an uncompromising commitment to integrity within the judicial arm.
Tinubu, adopting a firm and unapologetic tone, cautioned that the courts must never become a marketplace for justice or a haven for unethical conduct. He urged judges across all cadres to reinforce long-standing values that have shaped the Nigerian bench and to resist pressures capable of undermining their oath.
He said the survival of the nation’s institutions depends largely on the moral authority of its judiciary, noting that judicial compromise erodes public trust and weakens national stability.
According to him, corruption in any form—whether in the legislature, the executive or the courts—poses a direct threat to governance and must be confronted decisively.
The President’s address underscored the need for a renewed, disciplined culture within the justice sector, with a call to “destroy corruption in the judiciary to the core” to safeguard the sanctity of the justice system.
