A student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Shafiu Auwal Ibrahim, who was declared missing four years ago, has been found alive in Kaduna State.
Shafiu, a resident of the Janbulo area in Kano, was reported missing in 2021, prompting a widespread search by his family, friends and colleagues.
Family members said he was discovered in a village in Kaduna, where he had been living with an Islamic scholar.
According to a relative, the cleric claimed he took Shafiu in several years ago after finding him wandering and appearing mentally unstable.
“He was found in Kaduna with a cleric who said he had cared for him since he appeared mentally unwell,” the family member said.
The family expressed gratitude to God for his safe return, saying they had endured years of uncertainty and emotional distress.
“We thank God that he is alive and back home. It’s been a very difficult four years for us,” the relative added.
Shafiu has since reunited with his family in Kano and is reported to be in stable condition.
