[PHOTOS] Federal Poly Offa Inaugurates New SUG Executives, Comrade Achiever Assumes Office as President

The Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, earlier today, Tuesday, October 28 inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives for the 2024/2025 academic session, with Comrade Abdulazeez Majeed Olanrewaju, popularly known as Achiever as the new President.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Academic Board Room of the institution’s main campus, was attended by members of the management team, principal officers, staff, and student leaders.

In his goodwill message, the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, FNSE, congratulated the new executives and urged them to discharge their duties responsibly, with humility and integrity.

“Leadership is not about position but service. Your impact will linger after you’ve left. Be good ambassadors of yourselves, your parents, and this great institution,” Rector said.

He reaffirmed management’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious relationship with the students’ union, emphasizing that cooperation between the two bodies remains key to sustaining the polytechnic’s academic progress.

Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Arowomale, commended the Rector and management for their continuous support of student leadership and democratic values within the institution. He advised the new officers to lead with patience and empathy.

“As leaders, you must have listening ears and accommodate others. Leadership requires emotional intelligence and a heart of service,” he said.

He also offered prayers for their success in office.

In his inaugural speech, the newly sworn-in SUG President, Comrade Abdulazeez Majeed Olanrewaju, expressed appreciation to the management, the Electoral Committee, and the student body for the confidence reposed in him and his team.

He commended the outgoing executives for their service and pledged to build on their achievements. Outlining his administration’s focus areas, Olanrewaju said the union’s agenda would prioritize students’ security, academic stability, and improved welfare.

According to him, his administration would work closely with the management to ensure safety on and off campus, maintain a stable academic calendar, and address key welfare concerns.

Among the issues highlighted in his address were:

Security: Collaboration with internal and local security agencies to enhance safety.

Academic Calendar: Advocacy for a consistent and uninterrupted calendar.

Student Union Bus: Request for a new bus to support student mobility and emergencies.

Health Insurance: Transparency in TISHIP deductions and improved medical support.

Tuition Fees: Appeal for a 50% reduction to ease economic hardship on students and parents.

NYSC Mobilization: Timely mobilization of graduating students.

Internet Charges: Removal of internet fees until a stable and accessible service is provided.

“We come not to antagonize, but to collaborate,” Olanrewaju declared. “Our administration will uphold peace, unity, and transparency. Every student’s voice will count.”

He expressed gratitude to the Dean of Student Affairs, the Chief Security Officer, and the entire election committee for ensuring a fair and credible electoral process.

“To my fellow students, thank you for your trust and support. We promise not to disappoint you,” he concluded.
