Senate Screens Idris Olorunnimbe, Others For NCC Board Confirmation

The Senate Committee on Communications has screened Mr Idris Olorunnimbe and other nominees for appointment to the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), marking a critical step in reinforcing regulatory oversight of Nigeria’s telecommunications and digital economy sector.

During his appearance before the committee on Thursday, Olorunnimbe — the Chairman-designate — pledged to align the Commission’s policies with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on broadband expansion, consumer protection, and digital inclusion.

He assured the lawmakers that, if confirmed, the new Board would work to attract fresh investments, strengthen institutional frameworks, and ensure that Nigeria remains competitive in the fast-evolving global digital landscape.

“My vision is to build a more inclusive, transparent, and innovation-driven regulatory environment that promotes growth, empowers consumers, and fosters investor confidence,” Olorunnimbe told the committee.

The nominee, who is the founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of The Temple Company, is widely recognised for his contributions to creative enterprise and policy advocacy. A trained lawyer and entrepreneur, Olorunnimbe has earned executive education credentials from prestigious institutions including Harvard Business School, Oxford University, the University of Cambridge, and Henley Business School.
