The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a local chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in connection with the death of a 45-year-old woman, identified as Falmata Abubakar, in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased, a food vendor, was reportedly found lifeless and dumped near the Federal University Gashua (FUG) on Friday, October 17.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest of one Abdulmumini Garba, 60, the APC Secretary of Karasuwa Local Government Area, who also serves as the Secretary of the Vegetables Market (Kasuwan Gwari) in Gashua.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Garba conveyed the deceased in his vehicle before an argument erupted over her request for financial assistance to boost her business. The altercation reportedly turned tragic when Falmata died during the exchange.
Realising the situation, the suspect allegedly dumped her body in a bush close to the university at about 10:00 p.m. on the same day.
SP Abdulkarim stated, “Following diligent investigation and sustained intelligence efforts, operatives of the Bade Division tracked and apprehended the suspect, who has since confessed to his involvement in the incident.”
He described the arrest as “a testament to the Command’s proactive intelligence-gathering and tactical operational efficiency,” noting that the police acted swiftly to trace and apprehend the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for their professionalism and commitment to justice. He assured that the case would be diligently investigated and charged to court upon completion.
While expressing appreciation to residents for their continued cooperation, the CP urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist the police in combating crime across the state.
