The National President of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU), Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, has outlined the strides achieved under his leadership within his first 100 days in office, pledging to further strengthen student representation across the country.
Giwa made this known while featuring on Campus 360, a popular youth-oriented programme on Agidigbo FM 88.7 Ibadan, anchored by Bowale Akinbode, Omowumi Abraham, and Tomiwa Alesinloye.
He disclosed that his administration has so far connected with all FIBSU chapters nationwide through both online registration and physical engagement. “We now have 72 registered FIBSU chapters across Nigeria,” he said. “We hold monthly congresses to discuss challenges affecting our members and proffer solutions collectively.”
Addressing rumours about the union’s national bus and alleged payments from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Oyo State Governor on Student Affairs, Giwa set the record straight.
“The FIBSU bus has not been stolen or sold. It developed a mechanical fault and is currently being repaired,” he clarified. “As for claims that I receive a salary from the SSA office, that is false. The office is open to anyone who wishes to verify.”
Giwa also emphasised his administration’s commitment to collaboration, stating that the union has engaged both political and traditional leaders to drive its goals to the grassroots level.
He revealed ongoing partnerships with local government chairmen across Ibadan to implement the Back to School initiative aimed at supporting indigent students. “We’ve worked with local councils like Lagelu and Egbeda to ensure students facing financial difficulties have access to the programme,” he added.
According to him, the union has reactivated its social media channels to foster stronger communication among Ibadan students, while plans are underway to launch a bursary scheme for FIBSU members soon.
Giwa also announced a forthcoming environmental awareness project tagged Operation Clean Up Ibadan, to be held in major markets across the city. The initiative, he said, will sensitise market leaders and traders on the importance of maintaining clean surroundings.
In a gesture of goodwill, Giwa appreciated the President of the FIBSU Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Chapter, Comrade Omo Ade, for the gift presented to him during the programme. He also extended gratitude to the Offa Chapter President for a similar token of appreciation.
He expressed his deep appreciation to the Oyo State Government, sponsors, stakeholders, and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) for their continuous support towards the union’s development agenda.
“Our 100 days in office reflect the spirit of service, unity, and accountability. With sustained collaboration, we’ll make Ibadan students proud,” Giwa concluded.
