Tinubu’s Minister, Uche Nnaji, Quits Over Certificate Forgery Allegations

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Mr Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him.

His resignation was confirmed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accepted Nnaji’s decision to step down.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, Onanuga explained that the minister’s resignation came amid growing controversy surrounding the authenticity of his academic credentials. He noted that President Tinubu acknowledged Nnaji’s letter of resignation and expressed appreciation for his contributions to the administration since his appointment in August 2023.

“President Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following certain allegations against him,” the statement read in part.

According to Onanuga, the minister in his resignation letter thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation, adding that his decision was made to protect the integrity of the government and allow for an independent review of the allegations.

Nnaji, who hails from Enugu State, reportedly attributed his ordeal to “calculated blackmail” by political adversaries seeking to discredit his record in public service.

“I have been a consistent target of smear campaigns orchestrated by political opponents who feel threatened by my commitment to reform and transparency in governance,” he was quoted as saying.

President Tinubu, in his response, commended the minister for his service and professionalism, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
