The Osun State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has announced plans to honour eminent personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education and human capital development, as part of activities marking year 2025 World Teachers’ Day scheduled for tomorrow, October 5th, 2025
Among the awardees are the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi; the elder stateswoman and education advocate, Chief (Mrs.) Modupe Adeleke; former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; the Senate Minority Leader, Senator (Akogun) Lere Oyewumi; member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bamidele Salam; and a respectable NUT leader, Comrade Ebo Bola Gbenga.
According to the leadership of the Union, the recognition is aimed at appreciating individuals who have demonstrated unwavering support for teachers, promoted quality education, and contributed significantly to the upliftment of the teaching profession in Osun State and beyond.
Speaking on the significance of the awards, the State NUT Chairman noted that the Awardees were carefully selected for their visible impact on education, governance, community development, and the welfare of teachers.
“This year’s celebration is not just about commemorating teachers’ day, but also about spotlighting leaders and partners who continue to identify with the noble cause of education. Their support has strengthened the teaching profession and inspired our members to keep giving their best,” he remarked.
The event, which will feature keynote addresses, lectures, and special tributes to teachers, will also serve as a platform to call for greater investment in education and the continuous prioritization of teachers’ welfare in Nigeria.
The State Secretary, Comrade Akin Adeojo pleads to the current performing governor on behalf of the Osun Teachers that recruitment of teachers is of immediate priority to the government as teachers have depleted from public schools ridiculously. It’s quick intervention by the government in recruiting teachers into different schools that is a panacea to the current challenge of scarcity of teachers.
The Osun NUT without reservation thereby congratulates the awardees and reaffirms its commitment to working with government and stakeholders to build a brighter future for the teaching profession and the younger generation.
