….Bags NANS Award of Excellence as Outstanding Legislator
The member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency of Offa LG in the Kwara State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, has charged Nigerian students to take active roles in the democratic process and nation-building.
Ogunniyi made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Independence Anniversary Summit organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) North Central Zone C held at the NBA Hall, Ilorin, on October 1, 2025.
Speaking on the theme, “The Role of Students in Good Governance,” the lawmaker emphasized that students occupy a vital position in shaping the nation’s political and socio-economic trajectory.
He urged them to go beyond mere commentary on social media and instead participate actively in governance by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and engaging meaningfully in the electoral process.
He cautioned against students being used as instruments of political violence or electoral malpractice, advising them to channel their intellect, energy, and creativity toward promoting peace, unity, and development.
Ogunniyi commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his steadfast commitment to student welfare, particularly the recent disbursement of bursaries to Kwara students in tertiary institutions across the country.
He described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the governor’s passion for education and youth inclusiveness in governance.
The lawmaker also applauded the convener of the summit, Comrade Abdulazeez Abiola Adigun, the Deputy Coordinator of NANS North Central Zone C, for organizing an intellectually stimulating and patriotic event on Nigeria’s Independence Day.
In recognition of his outstanding legislative performance and impactful leadership, NANS North Central Zone C presented an Award of Excellence to Ogbeni Ogunniyi as an Outstanding Legislator.
The award, according to the organizers, was in appreciation of his responsiveness to constituents, public engagement, mentorship of young people, and remarkable contributions to the student community.
While expressing gratitude for the honour, Hon. Adato reaffirmed his dedication to the effective representation of his constituents and the mentorship of student leaders.
Other award recipients included the Oloro of Oro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye (Olufayo II), who was recognized for his commitment to promoting culture and preserving traditional heritage.
Dignitaries at the summit included the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, represented by Dr. Sheriff Ibrahim Gold; the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, Hon. Wasiu Onidugbe; the Kwara State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Abdulganiyu Olurotimi Dare; and ACP Olisa Oseloka Onyeabo from the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Police Force.
