Fear gripped residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Thursday after armed men stormed the residence of a former local council chairman, Alhaji Emilola Gazal, and dispossessed him of valuables, cash, and his car.

The assailants, numbering three, reportedly gained access to the house around 2:00 a.m. They were said to have forced the politician at gunpoint to unlock his banking application and transfer an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing with his silver-coloured vehicle and other belongings.

Narrating the ordeal through a neighbour’s phone, Gazal described the incident as a harrowing experience, noting that the attackers operated with frightening precision.

“It was terrifying. They were fully armed, and they knew exactly what they came for. They did not only take cash and valuables but also compelled me to make a transfer before escaping,” he lamented.

The Ijebu-Ode Police Area Command, Igbeba Division, confirmed the incident, saying officers have commenced investigation. The command assured that security operatives were on the trail of the perpetrators.

Residents of the community have since called for increased police patrols in the area, citing rising concerns over late-night attacks.
