The Oro-Ago Development Union (ODU) has condemned the killing of a prominent community leader, Chief David Depo Aina, popularly known as Kebe, who was murdered during a bandits’ attack in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Thursday, has thrown the town into mourning. Chief Aina was said to have been targeted in a kidnap attempt that spiralled into violence, leaving the respected leader dead and heightening fears of insecurity in the area.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Oloro of Oro-Ago Kingdom, Oba Johnson Olarewaju Dada, the union expressed deep sorrow over what it described as a “barbaric and cruel act” that has shaken the foundation of the community.
“This is not just an attack on Chief Aina and his family, but an assault on the peace, dignity and collective security of the entire Oro-Ago Kingdom,” the statement read.
The ODU called on security agencies to launch immediate investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that the people of Oro-Ago “deserve to live without fear of abduction or violent assault.”
The union further appealed to government at all levels to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity, particularly in rural communities across Kwara State.
“On behalf of the Oloro-in-Council and the entire Oro-Ago people, we commiserate with the bereaved family and pray for God’s comfort and fortitude in this moment of grief,” the statement added.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to working with traditional institutions, security operatives and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and promote development in the kingdom.
