Man Arraigned For Killing Friend Over N20,000 In Ondo

A 40-year-old man, identified as Eze Elechi Amadi, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing his 21-year-old friend and housemate, Otu Ifeanyi, during a quarrel over N20,000.

The tragic incident, which has thrown Kajola community into mourning, occurred after a heated dispute between the two men spiralled out of control.

According to police investigators, Amadi accused Ifeanyi of withdrawing money from his bank account without paying it back. The altercation allegedly turned violent as Amadi flogged the deceased with a horsewhip before repeatedly punching him until he collapsed and died on the spot.

In an alleged attempt to cover up the crime, Amadi was said to have stuffed the body into a sack, concealed it inside a blue plastic drum, and tied it to his motorcycle. His plan to dump the corpse in a nearby bush failed when the load slipped off the bike along the road. He reportedly abandoned both the motorcycle and the drum before fleeing.

A passerby, returning from a night vigil, discovered the shocking sight and immediately alerted security operatives. Investigations later traced the crime back to Amadi, who had been hiding in the ceiling of his residence before eventually surrendering to the police.

Police prosecutor, Austine Omhenimhen, told the court that the offence was committed on August 24, 2025, around 1:50 p.m., and contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Ondo State Criminal Code, punishable under Section 319.

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

Presiding Magistrate, Odenusi Fadeyi, ordered Amadi’s remand at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The matter was adjourned to October 13 for further hearing.
