The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Bashiru, for allegedly being in possession of suspected human flesh.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, said the incident occurred at the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan Expressway.
According to him, officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG around 11:30 a.m., during which the cleric was found with the suspicious item.
Osifeso disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect claimed he purchased the substance in Lagos.
He added that the matter has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation.
“The recovered substance has been sent for forensic analysis to ascertain its authenticity and origin,” Osifeso stated.
The police assured the public that the outcome of the forensic tests and investigations would be made public once concluded.
