Hundreds of residents of Offa Local Government Area in Kwara State have benefitted from a free medical outreach organised by the state government as part of its ongoing health intervention programme.
The initiative, held at the General Hospital, Offa, brought together a team of doctors and health professionals led by Dr. Arigidi Stephen Onotu, who attended to patients with ailments ranging from cataracts, pterygium, lipoma, hydrocele to hernia.
Free consultations, medications, and eyeglasses were also distributed to beneficiaries.
Supervising Councillor for Health, Hon. Ezekiel Olagoke, who was present at the exercise, described the programme as a lifeline for vulnerable and financially constrained residents.
He lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for “placing healthcare at the heart of his administration’s priorities.”
“This outreach reflects Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to rescuing vulnerable citizens from health challenges, bringing joy to medically disadvantaged and financially constrained residents of Offa,” Olagoke said.
He equally commended the Chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Laaro Omituntun, for his leadership style, which he said has consistently prioritised the welfare of the people.
Beneficiaries could not hide their excitement. A local trader, Mrs. Aishat Ibrahim, said: “I got treatment for my eye condition and free glasses. This programme has saved me so much.”
Similarly, a retired civil servant, Mr. Taiwo Adebayo, noted that the outreach saved him and his family from heavy financial stress. “The free medical outreach not only saved me a substantial amount of money, but also eased the financial burden on me and my children,” he said.
The outreach forms part of the Kwara State Government’s Health Intervention Programme, designed to bridge healthcare gaps in rural and underserved areas.
Through outreaches and mobile clinics, the scheme has reached thousands of residents across the state, targeting common but costly health conditions that affect grassroots communities.
