It was a gathering of unity, resolve, and political reawakening earlier today, Saturday, September 13, 2025 as stakeholders across Kwara South Senatorial District converged on Gbenab Executive Hotel, Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area, for a historic roundtable.
The meeting, which drew over 500 participants including political leaders, elder statesmen, traditional rulers, youth and women representatives, federal and state lawmakers, as well as community stakeholders, was convened by the Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye.
With the theme, “Unity for Progress: Charting a Sustainable Future for Kwara South,” the roundtable deliberated on security, infrastructure, political representation, and the 2027 transition, culminating in far-reaching resolutions.
In one voice, participants applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing notable sons and daughters of Kwara South into key federal positions, urging them to remain worthy ambassadors of the district.
The roundtable went further to unanimously adopt President Tinubu for a second term in office, citing his reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda as critical to Nigeria’s stability and growth.
Attention, however, shifted to 2027 as leaders insisted it was the “inalienable right” of Kwara South to produce the next governor of the state.
Senator Oyelola Ashiru, Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, urged stakeholders to unite and work towards realizing the ambition.
“In the year 2027, the critical question is how do we approach our political path after the expiration of this term? Do we sit at home and look? It’s the right of everyone from Kwara South to aspire for Governor. It’s our right!” Ashiru declared.
Corroborating his stance, legal luminary, Biodun Dada Esq, said there was no constitutional or party barrier preventing Kwara South indigenes from contesting the governorship.
“There is no zoning in the constitution of the APC; therefore, sons and daughters of Kwara South are free to contest for the governorship seat in 2027. We will deploy our network and resources to support them,” he affirmed.
The roundtable praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his infrastructural strides across the state, while appealing for accelerated investment in roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, and industrial hubs in the district.
In recognition of his performance, participants advocated a higher role for Governor AbdulRazaq at the federal level in future, either in the executive or legislative arm, as Kwara’s “ambassador of service.”
Lawmakers and representatives from the district were equally commended for their interventions, with calls to expand people-oriented programmes.
The communiqué emphasized the need to maintain unity across Kwara South communities, warning against divisive tendencies. It also stressed the inclusion of youths and women in governance and leadership, recognizing them as vital to the district’s stability and progress.
A 15-member Kwara South Leaders’ Think-Tank Committee was inaugurated to coordinate follow-up actions on the resolutions, engage stakeholders at state and national levels, and articulate developmental priorities for the district.
In their closing remarks, participants commended Otunba Biodun Ajiboye and his team for their foresight and sacrifice in hosting the roundtable, describing it as a turning point for Kwara South ahead of the 2027 elections.
The mood in Oro was unmistakable: a district determined to speak with one voice, consolidate its gains under the Tinubu administration, and assert its rightful place in Kwara’s political future.
