Nigeria Army troops have killed a suspected bandit and seized an AK-47 rifle with ammunition during an ambush in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, followed intelligence on the movement of armed bandits along the Lema–Daban Lema Road.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, said the ambush took place around 12:10 am on Thursday. The troops engaged the suspects in a gunfight, killing one during a follow-up operation, while others escaped.
Recovered items include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle. The suspect’s body was handed over to the relevant authorities.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised the soldiers for their efforts and urged them to keep up the pressure on criminal elements. He assured residents that the Army remains committed to eliminating banditry and other crimes in Kwara communities.
