C’ttee Rolls Out Activities For Ladoja’s Coronation As Olubadan

Ibadanland is set for history as the Coronation Committee of the 44th Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, yesterday unveiled a weeklong programme of activities leading to his formal installation on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The committee, chaired by former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, held its inaugural meeting in Ibadan with full representation from government officials, traditional chiefs and prominent indigenes.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the celebrations will open on Monday, September 22 with an interdenominational service at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, to be hosted by the CCII.

On Tuesday, September 23, the spotlight will shift to Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage with a Cultural Day in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. A day later, Prof. Toyin Falola, the renowned historian, will deliver the coronation lecture.

The weeklong festivities will climax with a mega praise worship session at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, on Thursday, September 25, before the grand coronation at Mapo Hall on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The inaugural meeting was attended by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo; Asipa Olubadan-designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Chief Nureni Adisa; Media Aide to the Olubadan, Chief Adeola Oloko, as well as commissioners, local government chairmen, Assembly members and top government officials.

The weeklong coronation is expected to attract eminent personalities, including traditional rulers and political leaders from across the federation.

Speaking on the significance of the forthcoming coronation, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, described Ladoja’s emergence as a blessing for Ibadan.

He said: “By the grace of God, we are going to have a successful Olubadan. He has excelled as a senator and governor, and his private successes in business and politics will reflect in his reign. I wish him long life, good health and success.”

With the unveiling of the coronation programme, the ancient city is agog, as indigenes and residents await the enthronement of a monarch many believe will usher in a new era of purposeful leadership.
