The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU) has bestowed a prestigious honour on one of Ibadanland’s foremost traditional leaders, Olóyè Monsuru Abiola Olanbiwonninu Arulogun, the Gbonka Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland and Mogaji of the Arulogun compound.
At a brief but historic ceremony, the revered Ibadan chief graciously accepted his nomination as National Patron of FIBSU. His acceptance was met with warmth and admiration from members of the union and other well-wishers, who described the development as a landmark step in strengthening the relationship between Ibadan’s traditional leadership and its student community.
Olóyè Olanbiwonninu, widely respected for his contributions to community development, cultural preservation and youth empowerment, expressed gratitude for the honour. He pledged his continued support for the union in fostering academic excellence, social responsibility and leadership values among Ibadan students.
In a statement issued under the leadership of FIBSU National President, Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, and signed by the Director of Media and Publicity, Adesina Quadri Ademola, the union explained that the choice of Olóyè Olanbiwonninu as National Patron was inspired by his proven integrity, deep-rooted service to Ibadanland and his unwavering commitment to the progress of the younger generation.
“This is more than an appointment; it is a reaffirmation of the enduring bond between our cultural heritage and the future of Ibadan,” the statement read. “His fatherly support and wise counsel will serve as a compass for students of Ibadan origin across the country.”
The development further underscores FIBSU’s resolve to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions in promoting unity, heritage and leadership consciousness among Ibadan indigenes at home and in the diaspora.
