The Speaker of Offa Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Mustapha Olawale Sharafa, has congratulated winners of the just-concluded Under-14 Inter-Local Government Table Tennis Championship tagged “Mummy Olufunke Catch Them”.
The grassroots sporting event, which is the 6th edition, was organized by the Grassroot Sport Association in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Prof. Olufunke Abdulrazaq.
Offa Local Government made a remarkable outing in the championship, with its female team clinching both the first and second positions. The feat, according to the Speaker, reflects the commitment, discipline, and resilience of the young athletes.
Sharafa, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Olawole Jubril FMJ Ibolo, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for what he described as “a rare gift of a loving and visionary mother” in the First Lady, whose Catch Them Young initiative has continued to nurture budding talents across the state.
He noted that the First Lady’s dedication to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development would not only groom future champions but also instill in young people the values of hard work, teamwork, and discipline.
The Speaker also commended the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon. Olatunji Sulaiman Omituntun, for his role in ensuring the success of the championship.
“Organizers and guests have all testified to the Chairman’s extraordinary support. This may be the sixth edition, but the energy and resources Hon. Olatunji Omituntun brought into it remain unmatched. His leadership is worthy of commendation,” he said.
Sharafa further applauded the Grassroot Sport Association for sustaining the initiative, adding that such platforms would continue to inspire more young people to embrace sports as a pathway to self-actualization.
“With the successes recorded, I strongly believe more hidden talents will emerge from our communities. Sports is not just recreation; it is an avenue to empower and transform lives,” the Speaker added.
