2026: Oyetola’s Ex-Deputy, Alabi, Declares For APC Ticket

Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi, yesterday formally declared his intention to contest the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2026.

Alabi, who served under ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola between 2018 and 2022, made his declaration in Osogbo while addressing journalists. He said his experience in governance, particularly his years as deputy governor, placed him in a vantage position to steer the state towards a new phase of progress.

According to him, Osun requires a leader who can manage men and resources with tact, handle complex challenges, and redirect the state’s fortunes in line with the aspirations of its people.

“I have been in the system; I understand the intricacies of governance, and I am convinced that my experience makes me the best option among the aspirants,” Alabi said.

Responding to insinuations that his former principal, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, had already endorsed another aspirant, Alabi dismissed the claims as mere political gossip.

“There is no doubt that Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji is close to Oyetola, having served as his Commissioner for Finance, but that does not amount to an endorsement. The Minister has made it clear that he has no preferred candidate. He openly wished all aspirants well, and I believe him because he is a man of his word,” Alabi maintained.
