The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has resigned his position, citing the need to foster peace in the state legislature.
In a handwritten letter dated 24 August 2025, which he personally shared on his Facebook page under the caption “Let there be peace”, Dajoh announced his decision to step aside, stressing that the move was taken “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
The Gboko West lawmaker expressed gratitude to his colleagues for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Assembly, describing his tenure as Speaker as an opportunity to serve “as the first among equals.”
While relinquishing the top position, Dajoh pledged to remain committed to his legislative duties and to the service of his constituents.
His resignation marks a significant turn in the politics of the state legislature, which has in recent months witnessed tension and power tussles over its leadership.
Dajoh’s exit is expected to pave the way for the emergence of a new Speaker, as members of the Assembly begin fresh consultations to fill the vacancy.
