Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, the newly appointed Managing Director of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), is set to be officially sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
This would be a ceremony widely expected to mark the dawn of a new era for the North Central region.
The appointment of Dr. Tsenyil as the pioneer MD of the NCDC has generated strong reactions across both civil society and youth groups.
It would be recalled that the North Central Youth Assembly (NCYA) issued a statement celebrating his confirmation, calling it a “defining moment for inclusive governance and strategic investment”—and lauding him as “eminently qualified and remarkably grounded.” The group pledged to act both as a watchdog and civic partner in the Commission’s journey forward .
Similarly, the North Central Good Governance Ambassadors, in a statement dated June 11, 2025, described Dr. Tsenyil’s appointment as a “masterstroke” and a “turning point” for the region. They praised President Tinubu for exercising visionary leadership, and urged stakeholders across the region—state governments, traditional institutions and civil society—to rally behind the new MD and the Commission’s mission .
Earlier in the year, youth groups such as the North Central Youth Council had extended warm congratulations, recognising Dr. Tsenyil’s track record—from his eight-year tenure as Plateau State Accountant General (2015–2023) to pioneering digital reforms that increased revenue and reduced costs .
The swearing-in on August 28, 2025 represents a significant milestone—not only in the launch of the NCDC, but in charting a development trajectory for North Central Nigeria. The region, which has long struggled with insecurity, infrastructure deficit, and systemic neglect, is now afforded a dedicated federal mechanism and a technocratically inclined leader at its helm.
As Dr. Tsenyil prepares to assume office, the effectiveness of his leadership may well depend on forging inclusive stakeholder cooperation, ensuring transparent governance, and translating regional aspirations into tangible outcomes.
