The Chairman, House Committee on Works at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulwaheed Gbenga Yusuf (popularly known as JK), has concluded a two-week intensive skill acquisition programme for residents of Offa Local Government.
The training, according to him, is aimed at tackling unemployment and promoting self-reliance.
The programme, tagged “A Two Weeks Intensive Job Creation and Professional Training Skill,” brought together participants from all wards across Offa Local Government.
It offered hands-on training in trades such as soap making, fashion design, bag and shoe production, catering and decoration, make-up and gele tying, printing, and hairdressing. Each trainee was allowed to specialise in their preferred skill area.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Friday, August 15, beneficiaries described the initiative as life-changing. Ismail Mistura, a hairdressing trainee from Shawo South West Ward, and Tajudeen Kehinde, who trained in bag and shoe making from Ojomu North North West Ward, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker, noting that the skills acquired had opened doors to self-employment and financial independence.
Certificates were presented to successful participants at the close of the programme.
In his remarks, Hon. Yusuf reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment and community development.
He noted that the initiative was part of his broader agenda to create sustainable economic opportunities for his constituents.
“This programme is about equipping our people with tools for self-reliance. I urge every participant to put their new skills into practice by establishing small-scale businesses that will not only sustain them but also contribute to the socio-economic development of Offa and Kwara State at large,” he said.
