A 10-year-old boy, Abubakar Lawal, has died following a violent altercation with other children in Karaku community, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred on 11 August 2025 while Abubakar and his friend, nine-year-old Hassan Adamu Umar, were returning home after grazing their parents’ sheep. They were reportedly confronted by four minors identified as Musa Aliyu, 10; Umaru Abdullahi, 6; Maryam Abdullahi, 10; and Fulaira Jika, 4.
During the confrontation, Musa Aliyu allegedly struck both Abubakar and Hassan with a stick, inflicting severe injuries. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Kagara, where Abubakar was confirmed dead, while Hassan remains hospitalised.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, described it as a case of suspected culpable homicide. He disclosed that the minors involved have been brought in for questioning in the presence of their parents, who presented them to the police on 14 August.
“Further investigation is in progress, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further action,” Abiodun stated.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
